Self-Compassion as a Mediator between Perceived Emotional Abuse and Social Anxiety in University Students

Abstract
This study examined the mediating role of self-compassion on the relationship between perceived emotional abuse and social anxiety. 389 undergraduate participants completed questionnaires assessing perceived emotional abuse, self-compassion, and social anxiety. Lower levels of self-compassion were associated with and partially mediated the relationship between perceived emotional abuse and social anxiety. Implications for intervention, future research, and limitation are discussed.
